Moonrise

What?

Watch the full moon rise in the evening.

Why?

Induce a state of awe (Keltner, 2016). Give yourself a reminder that we’re on a giant marble floating around in the solar system. It’s a beautiful thing. It also puts you outside during a time of natural light in the evening, which helps your create a healthy circadian rhythm.

How to?

  1. Figure out what day of the month is the full moon and what time it rises.

  2. Pick a spot to watch the moon rise, get there early and settle in for the show. Bring friends.

  3. Watch the moon move up into the sky. Go ahead, howl if you want to!

Protips:

  • Use an app (there are lots of free ones out there) to know exactly the right time the moon is rising so you don’t miss it.

  • During colder seasons, bring blankets and whatever you need to stay warm.

  • Pick an object in the foreground (such as the crook of a tree) and sit in front of that so that the moon rises in relation to that object. It’s a fun visual way to join two things in nature that wouldn’t normally connect.

Google to figure out the right day and time for the moonrise. Or download one of the many free apps used for sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing.

We’d love to know how you microdose nature!

If you’d like to help expand the diversity of our microdoses (and help create a thriving community of nature junkies in the process), email us at hello@naturejunkielife.com

In your email, briefly describe your favorite nature connection experience, how to do it, and how it makes you feel. The more weird, wise and wonderful the better. Thanks in advance!
