Dosage

We know we need to get more nature in our lives - but how much is enough? It’s personal.

Microdosing Nature is the Way to Go.

We’re fans of microdosing nature for three main reasons.

1) It’s Powerful Biologically. Even small amounts of nature exposure done consistently can help regulate our physiology (such as morning and evening sunlight exposure optimizing our circadian rhythms), reduce stress and improve focus.

2) It Helps Make Habit Change Easy. Let’s face it, we humans need to work on creating healthier relationships with our nature. In many behavior change models, one of the most powerful things we can do is to make our desired new behavior as small as possible. In short, a microdosing new habits. The reason this technique works is because it makes behavior change ridiculously easy.

3) It’s Accessible. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same level of access to nature and that sucks. Microdosing nature ensures that anyone can spend time in nature, practically anywhere at anytime without the need for huge amounts of time, money, or fancy gear.

Macrodosing Nature is the Way to Go.

We’re fans of macrodosing nature for two main reasons.

1) It’s Works. One key piece of research shows that getting 120 minutes per week is beneficial. Another large study in Finland showed that getting a minimum of 5 hours per month is beneficial (and that more was indeed better in this case).

2) It Feels Awesome. For some reason, really getting away into wild places away from screens for longer periods of time just feels amazing. I’ve heard there’s an aboriginal concept that modern society is three days deep, meaning that it takes three days to shed the stress of what we at Nature Junkie like to call “Modern F*ckery.” That said, we realize that not everyone has the same level of access to wild open spaces for a host of reasons, which is why we highly recommend microdosing nature.
